Dear classiccar-lovers, in today's article of our series #teamtakeover Federico shows you how we restore the softtop of a Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda within our Classic car manufactory. Enjoy!
At this point of our restoration several previous steps had to be made. First we had to dismantle the basis vehicle carefully. During the dismantling of this Mercedes-Benz 280 SL we will check whether the softtop frame can be used and which adjustments or replacements have to be performed. Once the frame and the Bowden wire have been restored, we will mount the frame with new springs and screws. Gaskets are being attached at this stage so we can perform a final check. The softtop frame and body must fit properly together, the opening and closing must be smooth.
Once this is all set we will line the frame with the softtop fabric and mount leather applications in the final step. Last but not least the car will be placed on the floor. It is important to see whether windows and doors fit perfectly with the softtop and its compartment cover.
