Or what was it actually like in those days?
The idea of the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL goes back to an initiative of the then most important US importers Max Hoffmann. In a legendary Daimler-Benz board meeting which took place in 1953, he stimulated the subject of producing a series car, parallel to the existing racing sports car 300 SL "Gullwing", a cheaper variant - the 190 SL for the American market. Both formally related vehicles were then developed in record time and delivered to the 190 SL in the spring of 1955. As a design icon of the fifties, it was a great success. The production ended in 1962. One could buy this dream car in 1958 for a base price of 16.500, - DM - a VW Beetle standard was placed on the market for about 3.800 DM
Or how it really is.

Or what is it like to drive?
Its completely well worked out body shapes and its solidity still looks good on the viewer, driver and passenger: He is and remains a style icon! Reliable, functional, suitable for everyday use, easy to maintain, comfortable, shapely, exciting and stable in value - these are the attributes that come to mind when you stand in front of a 190 SL. He is a valuable collector's item in this excellent condition. On the other hand, you can start without restrictions to short or longer trips - the proverbial Mercedes quality, the comfortable design, the high practicality and the good handling characteristics make it possible. In its first-class condition, it is certainly stable in value and, with appropriate treatment and care, certainly has potential for value enhancement.
