Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda
Nico Rosberg, Stirling Moss, Sophia Loren and even Kate Moss own the classic car with a timeless character - Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda – W113. As the successor to the almost too long-built 190 SL, the pagoda series at the suggestion of the Mercedes sales department was developed to meet the increased customer and market demands for greater engine power, more comfort, higher active and passive safety and more interior space. When the pagoda was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963, groundbreaking, innovative safety elements found entrance into the Mercedes-Benz series – such as the rigid passenger compartment, the defined crumple zones front and rear, a telescopic steering column with baffle, an interior without edges and corners and radial tires and belts as an optional element. For the motorization only six-cylinder engines were installed. The 280 SL became the top model of the series. The popular name pagoda results from the appearance of the concave curved hardtops, an ingenious design concept to improve the available space, the all-round view and the enlargement of the interior.
