Or what was it actually like in those days?
With the 250S, 250SE and 300SE models Mercedes presented its new, luxury range in 1965. After the distinctive tailfin era, it was now up to Paul Bracq to present a new style, based on sof-ter lines. The result was a series of classic, timeless elegance, especially true of the Coupé and Cabriolet versions. The models now had disc brakes all round and so were more advanced than most competitors. In 1967, the success of the models prompted Mercedes-Benz to offer new, advanced engines with 2.8 litre displacement and fuel injection. The 2.8 litre engine is still used in its basic form today.
Or what is it like to drive?
Its beautiful wooden interior and leather cognac, coordinate beautifully with the bronze exterior paint. More than almost any other vehicle of the 60‘s it conveys the style of expensive cars of that era, with all the comforts. Stylish trips and comfortable cruising are its forté, with plenty of space for up to five persons, even over longer distances. A beautiful car to enjoy good times with family or friends. Certainly a stable investment. Even in 1969, its original purchase price was around 33,000 Deutschemarks.
