The era

Or what was it really like back then?
The 320 series was one of the crowning achievements of the German car industry in the 1930s, after which the armaments industry was given ever greater priority. Luxury vehicle purchases were subsidised if the vehicles could be made available in the event of mobilisation. This later led to many 320s vanishing without a trace in the turmoil of war. The new type 320 replaced the Mercedes 290 from 1937 onwards. The 290 chassis continued to be used with the longer and wider car bodies being mounted on it. Engine performance was enhanced by an increase in engine capacity up to 78 PS. The 320 was conceived as a touring car which could effortlessly cover longer distances. This was realised to an even greater extent with the introduction of the overdrive gearbox in Autumn 1938 which lowered the engine revolutions per minute at higher speeds. Although it was not designed as a sports car, it distinguished itself with good road holding and handling.

The condition

Or how it really is. Original, restored or had a facelift?
The vehicle has been impeccably restored including new wooden fittings and a reconditioned engine, gearbox and axles. It is in pristine condition at the level it was when it first rolled off the production line. Everything works perfectly. The vehicle has not been moved since its restoration and all work has been documented.

The performance

Or what is it like to drive?
The vehicle is particularly suitable for prestigious outings and presentations. The legroom for backseat passengers is phenomenal. With its fresh but elegant colour scheme consisting of a red body with red canopy and tasteful light brown leather upholstery it cannot help but attract adoring glances. The excellent technical condition allows smooth trips to be undertaken at all times. Good care and maintenance will ensure that the car brings pleasure for many years to come and increases in value are to be expected.
