The era

Or what was it actually like in those days?
As the successor to the almost too long-built 190 SL, the pagoda series at the suggestion of the Mercedes sales department was developed to meet the increased customer and market demands for greater engine power, more comfort, higher active and passive safety and more interior space. When the pagoda was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963, groundbreaking, innovative safety elements found entrance into the Mercedes-Benz series – such as the rigid passenger compartment, the defined crumple zones front and rear, a telescopic steering column with baffle, an interior without edges and corners and radial tires and belts as an optional element. For the motorization only six-cylinder engines were installed. The 280 SL became the top model of the series. The popular name pagoda results from the appearance of the concave curved hardtops, an ingenious design concept to improve the available space, the all-round view and the enlargement of the interior.

The condition

Or how it really is. Original, given a facelift or fully restored? 
The automobile has been restored at the highest level. During the restoration special focus had been put on the original specifications of the manufacturer. The result is a vehicle with a new car character. Due to the special restoration services, this vehicle clearly stands out from the "normal classic car market". A valuation report with the condition grade A (mint condition) as well as the Mercedes-benz data card and all relevant documents are available.

The performance

Or what is it like to drive?
With its 2.8-liter engine, it can still reach the top speed of 200 km/h on request. However, it would be a shame to make use of it due to its collector status. The solid, stiff construction, the proven, durable technology, the class optics in glossy black, the good performance and its ease of operation can delight a future owner for many decades to come. In its class, it is an ideal investment, a valuable collection enrichment and / or a vehicle for enjoyable, comfortable travels.
