With its perfect proportions, it bears the typical design features of the 1930s: Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet A (W 187). The 220 series, developed on the basis of the 170 S, was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1951 together with the Mercedes-Benz 300 (Adenauer). This marked the beginning of the post-war era of the six-cylinder with the completely newly developed short-hub engine with overhead camshaft, which was installed in the almost unchanged chassis of the 170 S. Externally, the new 220 differed from the 170 S by a modified bonnet and headlights integrated into the wings. The Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet A, which was regarded as a new luxury class model, was offered as a four-seater saloon, a two-seater Cabriolet A, a four-seater Cabriolet B and, for the first time after the war, as a two-seater coupé. Apart from the Coupé, which was only built 85 times, the Cabriolet A was the most exclusive model of the W 187 series with 1,278 units built and was offered at a basic price of 18,500 DM.
